About Our Slogan and Banner

“Anchored in the Cross.  Sailing by the Breath of the Spirit.”

This is the heartbeat for our lives.  Without the saving work of Jesus through the cross, we are all truly lost and eternally separated from God.  We are not our own, but we are bought with a price.  Jesus is our anchor that holds us firmly in the place that He desires for us until He is ready for us to move.

Likewise, the work of the Holy Spirit is essential to living the life God desires.  He is our Counselor, Comforter, One who intercedes for us, the Supplier of Wisdom and Giver of all the good gifts of the Spirit.  We choose to be open vessels for God and allow the Breath of the Holy Spirit to be the wind in our sails that propels us forward into God’s adventure!

The vision of the banner at the top of our web page was given to Jeffrey by God in early 2007.  Jeffrey originally sketched the design using simple graphics software and it was later transformed into what you see today by James Nesbit, a prophetic graphic artist with Prepare the Way Ministries.

There are a number of elements that are important in the design.  The overall concept of a sailboat that has left a port city and is sailing in the open ocean is crucial to the founding of Set Sail Ministries.  God’s original call to Jeffrey and Kristine was this: “The times ahead are stormy, but I AM your peace in the storm.  Set Sail with Me.  You will not be disappointed with the journey I have planned for you.  You must leave the port city of AAC(our church at the time) and sail at My leading.  I AM your Captain.  Trust Me.  Like Abraham, you will know little about your destination…only Who you will be sailing with!  On your journey, you will dock in large ports and small ports, but first I must take you to Antioch, so that you may be properly connected to My Body.  That is the covering you will come under.”

The progression across the image from darkness to light (night to morning) is important also as we feel that with each step of our journey we walk more and more into God’s glorious light.  It is also symbolic of Job 22:28 “You will decide on a matter, and it will be established for you, and light will shine on your ways.”  And also Proverbs 4:18 “But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day.”

Finally the unusual picture of the cross both forming the mast of the ship and extending to the depths below is symbolic of several things.  First, the cross of Jesus is the center of our entire journey and our entire lives as well.  Second, the cross forms the mast of the ship which is what the sails attach to.  The sails must be attached firmly and raised to full position in order to catch the wind which is the very breath of the Holy Spirit.  The cross extends below the ship and to the depths below and serves as an anchor when in port and also as the keel of our ship.  For those familiar with sailing, the deeper your keel, the more stable your ship is and the more difficult it is to capsize.  In the natural, such a keel as what is pictured would, of course, be impractical and in fact impossible.  However, in the spiritual, God is not limited to the possible!
